With a depleted squad and only one substitute, Ducklington would have their work cut out.
Ducklington rose to the challenge and in the second minute of the game had won a corner. Laura Jones delivered the ball from the right to the feet of Sophie Pymm. Sophie’s shot was cleared but only as far as Laura sending a high cross to Ella Butler who headed on target only to be cruelly denied by the visiting keeper.
A minute later and Lauren major ‘s shot was fumbled on the line by the St Edmunds keeper who recovered well and saved the goal.
Seven minutes in and a Laura Jones cross from the right picked out Ella Butler who drilled it home for the first goal of the match taking Ducklington to a goal lead.1-0
A minute later and St Edmunds were on the attack with the resultant shot ably dealt with by stand in keeper, Francis Hook.
Ten minutes in and St Edmunds were again on the attack but could not break through Katy Hoare, and Holly Keylock in defence.
On the quarter of an hour mark a battling performance from Ella Butler and Laura Jones saw a break in to the visitors area culminating in Laura shooting just wide of the goal. The counter attack drew a dynamic save from Francis Hook ,followed a minute later by another. Then Ducklington were on the attack with a saved shot from Laura Jones.
Just before the half time whistle St Edmunds sent a shot over the bar.
Ducklington went in a goal up at half time, well deserved after a tremendous performance.
The second half started with a St Edmunds attack thwarted by Lauren Major, the second stand in keeper of the day, then a minute later a goal mouth melee saw the equaliser. 1-1
Ducklington responded well and a shot from Holly Keylock in the sixth minute put the visitors under pressure, but Ducklington seemed to loose some of their first half pace and in the eleventh minute the Ducklington goal kick was collected by St Edmunds and returned into the back of the Ducklington net.1-2
There followed a period of end to end play but St Edmunds had got the bit between their teeth and in the fourteenth minute a shot from the right took the visitors to a two goal lead. 1-3
Lauren Major pulled of a diving save in the sixteen minute to save further embarrassment and Abbey Lloyd in defence dispossessed another St Edmunds attack a minute later.
On the twenty minute mark Ducklington looked like they may turn the tide with a battling run from Ella Butler and Laura Jones but Laura’s shot was saved.
Two minutes from the final whistle and Abbey Lloyd cleared the ball off the line then just before the end Ducklington conceded a corner, St Edmunds capitalised and sealed their four goal tally. 1-4
It had been a true game of two halves with Ducklington brilliant and unstoppable in the first half then running out of steam in the second.
Lauren Major was awarded player of the match award for a battling effort in and out of goal.
