The much anticipated day had arrived, the match against 2006 league winners Kidlington.
This match saw ducks playing on a very wet and muddy home turf. Everyone turned up full of nervous excitement and this was reflected in both the home supporters and the match play itself.
Whistle blow signalled the 'game' was under way.
Kidlington putting pressure on the Duck defence almost immediately with a shot on goal giving Megan Want her first save, of many, today. A fantastic goal kick from our new confident goalie saw the ball back into the Kidlington half but was soon to return on the foot of Kidlington No. 10, who went one on one with Megan Ostle, powered into the back of the Duck net. 1-0 to Kidlington.
Kidlington continued the pressure with two more shots on goal but our strong defence of Millie Eaton and Megan Ostle working together at the back proved a good match for the Kidlington forwards.
The game progressed with Duck now surging forward into the Kidlington half with some good shots on goal by Foxy, Katie and even a powerful shot by Millie Eaton just wide of the target.
Half time whistle - what an exciting game.
After a brief team talk the teams returned to very soggy pitch made worse by the now continuous rain. A kick off by Duck saw the ball carried into the Kidlington half, picked up by Channel on the right wing and fired at goal narrowly missing the target.
A big goal kick from the Kidlington goalie put the ball into the duck half again, which was picked up be Kidlington No.10 who barged past 'Foxy', Megan Ostle but good defending by Millie Eaton saw the ball into touch.
The next few minutes saw some good play from Kidlington but the Duck 'wall' of defence held fast. A long kick up the field to 'Foxy' , who passed two Kidlington players, to put a shot just wide of the post. Another fine kick from the Kidlington goalie saw the ball back in the Duck half, two good passes from Kidlington found No. 10 in front of the Duck goal who let go a powerful shot but the now confident Megan Want launched herself into a dive across the goal into the mud for a fantastic save.
The game now looked like a one nil finish with good play by both teams but Kidlington, not happy with that outcome, kept up pressure. The Duck defence held out until three minutes from the final whistle a good shot from the Kidlington No.8 put the ball in the back of the net. 2-0 to Kidlington.
Good effort by all considering the weather conditions, lets hope for better on the re-match.
Well done.
